In my experience as a consulting engineer, your hardware can either be your best assistant or your biggest headache. I recently moved from a laggy laptop to a dedicated desktop build, and it has completely changed how I handle my projects. While a laptop offers mobility at a similar price point, it lacks the raw power and cooling needed for long hours of engineering work. More importantly, upgradability was my priority. With a PC, I can easily swap out parts or add more RAM as my software needs grow—something a laptop simply won't allow. Since I already have a laptop for site visits, this desktop has become the true "engine" of my consultancy, stopping the constant hanging and lag that used to slow me down.

I still use my laptop when I am out for site visits or meeting clients, but this desktop is my main power house. If you are tired of your computer hanging or freezing when you have a lot of work, you should think about moving to a desktop too. It makes your work much faster and less stressful. Once you see how smoothly everything runs, you will wish you had done this sooner.
